Chinese Coffee
Last year the number of Coffee rosting plants in China was 25, this year the number has grown to 30 Chinese coffee roasting plants. This is of course not very surprising to most who are aware of the rapid pace of development in China. It may even seem like a somewhat low number, and it is.
The Chinese aggregate coffee consumption is roughly 30,000 metric tons a year, well behind the more than 400,000 metric tons consumed by Japan each year. Japan is the third largest importer of Coffee each year.
The news in this is that Marubeni Corp., a Japanese coffee trading company, expect the Chinese Coffee market to expand at around 20 percent a year potentially reaching upwards of 200 million. This is good news for Marubeni Corp., who opened a Shanghai subsidiary in 2006, and the other coffee roasters and growers in China, seeing as how Japan is imports and consumes the huge amount of coffee they do with a total population of just ~ 127 million people. 127 million behind substatially less than the 200 million strong of the projected Chinese coffee market.
The Chinese coffee train is just leaving the gate!
